چکیده

This lecture introduces pixon-based image restoration/reconstruction methods. The relationship between image Algorithmic Information Content and the Bayesian incarnation of Occam's Razor are discussed as well as the relationship of multiresolution pixon languages and image fractal dimension. Also discussed is the relationship of pixons to the role played by the Heisenberg uncertainty principle in statistical physics and how pixon-based image reconstruction provides a natural extension to the Akaike information criterion for Maximum Likelihood estimation. The lecture then discusses practical implementation of pixon-based reconstruction, and how these techniques can be applied to a variety of problems, including problems outside of astronomical imaging.

The Image Restoration/Reconstruction Problem

This lecture reviews the image restoration/reconstruction problem in its general setting. We ̄rst discuss linear methods for solving the problem of image deconvolution, i.e. the case in which the data is a convolution of a point-spread function and an underlying unblurred image. Next, non-linear methods are introduced in the context of Bayesian estimation, including MaximumLikelihood and Maximum...

Pixon-based multiresolution image reconstruction and the quantification of picture information content

This paper reviews pixon-based image reconstruction, which in it current formulation uses a multiresolution language to quantify an image's Algorithmic Information Content (AIC) using Baye-sian techniques. Each pixon (or its generalization, the informaton) represents a fundamental quanta of an image's AIC, and an image's pixon basis represents the minimum degrees-of-freedom necessary to describ...

Pixon-basedmultiresolution Imagereconstruction and Quantification of Image Information Content

This paper describes the theory of pixon-based image reconstruction. After a brief introduction of the basic concepts of the pixon, the paper concentrates primarily on our current implementation of the techniques along with the approximations and shortcuts that seem to provide practical software algorithms. We then present an example of application of the method to astrophysical data.

Pixon-based image denoising with Markov random fields

Image restoration is an essential preprocessing step for many image analysis applications. So far, the majority of works have been devoted to image denoising. For this issue, the most common problem is that some interesting structures in the image will be removed from the concerned image during noise suppression. Such interesting structures in an image often correspond to the discontinuities in...
